Soaring, Indonesia's Tuna Export Value Reaches US$ 374.69 Million by May 2024

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) recorded an increase in the export of Tuna, Skipjack, and Mackerel (TCT) commodities from January to May 2024. Secretary of the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP, Machmud, stated that tuna commodity exports increased 4.3% from January to May 2024."For tuna, it increased by 4.3% in value and around 17.4% in volume, so the volume is high," he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (June 20).Machmud mentioned that based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the value of Indonesia's tuna exports from January to May 2024 reached US$374.69 million, up 4.3% year on year (yoy) compared to the same period in 2023, which was US$359.12 million.The export volume of tuna was on a positive trend, reaching 92,099 tons from January to May 2024, compared to 80,889 tons in the same period in 2023."The main export destinations for Tuna-Skipjack-Mackerel are the United States (US), Japan, and the European Union," he said.The European Union experienced an increase in Indonesia's tuna exports, with a value of US$57.20 million and an export volume of 13,498 tons during that period. Italy imported the most Indonesian tuna, with a value of US$37.03 million and a volume of 7,882 tons.Furthermore, Machmud added that the most popular tuna products in international markets include canned tuna with the code 160414 and fillets.
